‘YOLO!’ is an acronym for the phrase “You Only Live Once”, which is often used as a hash tag on Twitter to bring attention to exciting events or excuse irresponsible behaviors. 'YOLO! Stop the Violence, Lexington Experience' is flipping the script with this catchy phrase!

 

Did you know that Lexington has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes? More than 93% of communities within Kentucky have a lower crime rate than Lexington. That’s crazy, right?! That means more of YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS, SIBLINGS, and CLASSMATES are subject to teen violence in Lexington, KY!

 

…BUT YOU CAN HELP CHANGE THINGS for our community!! The voice of STUDENTS will be the major contributing factor to the success of “YOLO!” Stop the Violence Experience. Throughout the planning process of the YOLO Experience, during the experience, and afterwards – YOU will help start a collective community improvement!!

 

Who is a YOLO Ambassador?

• Advocates AGAINST gun violence and teen violence

• Those promoting excellence and being a positive example for peers

• Kentucky High School students or recent graduates.

• Outgoing students, with ideas on how to promote the YOLO campaign throughout the community.

• Responsible, proactive, and excited to get involved in bettering the areas you live in.

 

Why Become a YOLO Ambassador?

• Recruit/Register at least 20 fellow-students = eligible for 1 of 2 cash prizes of $500!

• Recruit at least 10 people = a sit-down and photo session with keynote speaker Marlon Shackelford!

• GREAT resume builder & Community service opportunity.

• Save lives/spread the word about the ‘YOLO! Experience' to friends, classmates, and neighbors online, in-person, & at school.
