Meet community employers that hire PREVIOUS CRIMINAL OFFENDERS, persons with MINIMAL EDUCATION, teens, recent H.S. grads, & all others!  If you're thinking about college, meet the many education representatives from excellent schools close to home!

SATURDAY - AUGUST 9, 2014    'YOLO! Stop the Violence Experience'

Keynote Speaker: Marlon Shackelford, Violence Prevention Specialist.  

-- An "all the way honest" testimony of life, struggle, and success - changing the culture of young people.

10:15a - 11:00a

Workshop I

Students choose from two workshops: 1) "Brains Break Chains" or 2) "Losing our Voice...Hip-hop's evolution."

*Parents/Educators attend separate session.

Workshop II

Students choose from two workshops: 1) "Diamonds & Gold: Know Your Worth" or 2) "Why Drugs/Gangs are Uncool."

Workshop III - S.W.A.G. (Sister & Supporters Working Against Gun violence)

SWAG is a powerful group of Lexington, KY mother-victims who've recently lost their children/loved ones to senseless youth gun violence. All 'YOLO! Experience' attendees - parents, educators, students, etc.

Workshop IV - "Cradle to Prison Pipeline"

How do we break this trend to save ourselves, and our city's youth from prison-paths?!

Panel Discussion - Teens Tell the Community

We connect the entire day here.  Students question panel members about life/success, workshop topics of the day, and - EVERYONE - brainstorms what we do from here!  Our youth want to make a difference...we must hear them out! 

SATURDAY EVENING - Community Unity Block Party!

6:00p - 9:00p

TURN UP!!

This will be a safe, fun, and energizing event @ DOUGLAS PARK that will set the tone for OUR COMMUNITY'S UNITY and begin to put into practice what has been discussed at the 'YOLO! Experience'.  The entire community - teens, adults, & police alike - are welcome at this event!  Includes spins from local DJs, live performances, community announcements & introductions, and info from attending vendors/community groups.
